Money and Banking

Banks and Credit Unions

All major Ecuadorian banks have one or more offices in Cuenca. The medium-sized bank Banco del Austro has its headquarters in Cuenca. The Central Bank of Ecuador also has a branch in Cuenca.

JEP, Ecuador's largest credit union, is from Cuenca and is highly visible. Another large credit union, Jardín Azuayo, is also from Cuenca.

Withdrawing Money

ATMs are widely available in Cuenca.

The cheapest ATMs to withdraw money from abroad are those of Banco Guayaquil. If you want to get banknotes in smaller denominations, it's best to use the ATMs of JEP. For example, if you withdraw $35, you'll receive at least one $10 banknote and one $5 banknote.

Exchanging money

You can exchange euros for dollars or dollars for euros at the city center branches of Banco del Austro and Banco Guayaquil. Be prepared to show your passport. Money exchange is also available at Delgado Travel, though their exchange rates are typically higher than those offered by Banco del Austro and Banco Guayaquil.
