The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, announced that Ecuador will soon have a new regularization process for Venezuelan citizens residing in Ecuador. He made this announcement today during the International Conference of Donors in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants.

The president said that the new policy must be adequate, lasting, and permanent. It has to be complemented with strategies to let the refugees participate in Ecuador's economy. Access to the labor market is part of this.

During the conference, the president also asked for support and commitment from the international community. Twenty-nine countries that participated as donors made USD 1,5 billion available to support countries that have received refugees from Venezuela.

In the past years, 222,588 Venezuelans have obtained a visa to stay in Ecuador. It is estimated that there are 430,000 Venezuelans in Ecuador. It is estimated that another 182,000 Venezuelan refugees will come to Ecuador by the end of this year.
