Ecuador: Visas and Immigration

When you want to travel to Ecuador, you will have to meet a number of requirements.

Citizens of most countries can visit Ecuador visa-free for 90 days per year. You can extend your visa-free stay by 90 days.

If you want to stay longer in Ecuador, you must apply for a temporary or permanent resident visa. With a temporary resident visa, you can stay in Ecuador for two years. You can apply for this visa as many times as you want. If you have stayed in Ecuador continuously for 21 months on a temporary resident visa, you can apply for a permanent resident visa.

After receiving a temporary or permanent resident visa you can obtain a cédula (national identity card).

Australian citizens between 18 and 30 years old can apply for a Work & Holiday visa at an Ecuadorian consulate in Australia.
