Introduction

As a tourist you may be allowed to stay 90 or 180 days per year in Ecuador without having a visa. You then get a so-called stay authorization for tourists when you enter Ecuador.

  • Whether you can get a stay authorization depends on the country from which you are.
  • With the stay authorization for tourists you are not allowed to work or carry out economic activities in Ecuador. An exception is remote work for people and businesses located outside of Ecuador. You’re not allowed to work for or provide services to people and businesses located in Ecuador.
  • You may apply for a VAT refund when you leave Ecuador.

Staying in Ecuador after the entry permit extension

If you want to stay in Ecuador after having consumed all 90 days of your entry permit extension, you will need to apply for a visa. See Visas and Entry / Guides for all options.

Tourist visa

Until February 2021, it was possible to apply for a 180-days tourist visa to stay 180 additional days in Ecuador after the stay permission. This visa doesn't exist anymore.
