Ecuador uses the US dollar as its national currency. In addition to the regular coins, Ecuador uses its own 50 cents coins which are only valid in Ecuador.
Good to know:
- 50 and 100-dollar banknotes are not widely accepted. Supermaxi grocery stores are one of the few places where they are accepted.
- Ecuadorians collect 2 dollar banknotes because they believe that these banknotes bring them luck.
