In 2025, the vehicle inspection and registration process in Quito began on January 20, 2025, and will run until December. The Agencia Metropolitana de Tránsito (AMT) will do the inspections and registrations.
Step-by-Step Process for Vehicle Inspection and Registration
Check Outstanding Payments
Visit the website: www.amt.gob.ec.
Click on "Consultar tus valores a pagar" to check for any pending payments or fines.
Settle Fines
If you have fines with the AMT or the National Transit Agency, generate payment orders and pay them.
Pay Required Fees
Pay the Road Fund Fee to the Pichincha Prefecture.
Pay the fee for the technical inspection and vehicle registration.
Schedule an Appointment
Book an appointment at one of the six vehicle inspection centers in Quito through the AMT website.
Prepare for Your Appointment
Arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled time with the following documents:
Your ID card.
A valid driver's license.
Receipts for all payments.
The confirmation of your appointment.
Complete the Inspection
If your vehicle passes the inspection, it will be registered automatically.
You will receive a circulation permit and a sticker confirming approval.
The sticker will be affixed to your windshield by the inspection center staff
