Overview
Caldas is a small town located in the department of Antioquia in Colombia, about 12 miles (20 kilometers) south of the city of Medellin. It is situated in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, and is known for its coffee plantations, beautiful landscapes, and colonial architecture.
Founded in 1776, Caldas has a rich history that can be seen in its well-preserved colonial architecture, which includes the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and the House of Culture. The town is also home to several small museums that showcase the history and culture of the region.
One of the main attractions in Caldas is its coffee plantations. Visitors can take a tour of the plantations and learn about the coffee-making process, from planting and harvesting to roasting and packaging. The area's rich soil and ideal climate make it a prime location for growing high-quality coffee beans, which are exported all over the world.
In addition to coffee, Caldas is also known for its delicious food, including traditional dishes like bandeja paisa (a hearty platter of beans, rice, meat, and plantains), arepas (a type of corn cake), and empanadas (a type of fried pastry filled with meat or cheese).
