Plaza de San Francisco

The Plaza de San Francisco is historically important square located in the heart of Cuenca's historic center. It holds cultural, social, and economic importance, attracting both locals and visitors alike.

The square has been a central hub since the colonial era, originally serving as a gathering place for merchants and artisans.

Nowadays, the square is renowned for its market, where artisans sell traditional handicrafts, textiles, leather goods, jewelry, and souvenirs. It's a good spot for purchasing authentic Ecuadorian items, such as panama hats, woven shawls, and alpaca products.

The Cuenca Letters are also located on this square.
