Tourist visas vs stay authorizations
Many people mistakenly think they have a tourist visa. Often this is not the case. For an Ecuadorian tourist visa, you must submit documents to an Ecuadorian consulate. If you haven't done this, you do not have a tourist visa and you are most likely in Ecuador on the basis of a stay authorization.
Visas and ID-card orders
To apply for a visa in Ecuador, you'll need to visit a regional office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility. The Zone 6 office in Azogues is the regional office for the Cuenca region. You can make an appointment for a visa application on this website: Gestión de citas.
To obtain an ID-card order (orden de cedulación) as part of the application process for an Ecuadorian ID-card (cédula), you'll also need to visit this regional office. For this application at this office you don't need to make an appointment. You can visit the office to make your application beween 8h30 and 13h00 on working days.
