Translations for Ecuador

Almost all government organizations in Ecuador only accept documents that are originally in Spanish or are translated into Spanish.

Ecuador's judicial system registers translators. You must use such a registered translator in legal procedures. You can find the register here: Consulta de peritos acreditados. Under "Área o Profesión:" you can select "Interpretes y traductores".

For most other procedures you don't need a translator from that register. For visas, it's sufficient to have a translation from an Ecuadorian citizen. For a driver's license, many ANT offices allow you to make your own translation.

Notarizations

Translations need to be notarized by a public notary in Ecuador. Some notaries may not want to notarize your own translations. The reason can be that they have a network of translators from which they get a commission or they simply don't have experience with this kind of situation. In case a notary refuses to notarize your own translation, you should first persist and if that stays without result work you can visit another notary where they are hopefully more helpful.
