A New Sustainable Vision for Guango Lodge: The Las Pajareras Project

Guango Lodge, located in the Ecuadorian Andes' cloud forest of Papallacta, is embarking on a new project called Las Pajareras. Designed by architects Ignacio Muñoz Bustamante and Javier Mera Luna, the project emphasizes sustainable practices and a strong connection to nature. It features three guest modules with flexible layouts, private bathrooms, and porches with stunning views of the Papallacta River. A future phase includes a communal area with a small outdoor hot pool and changing facilities. Constructed within a narrow strip of land due to an oil pipeline easement, the project uses local materials, a wastewater treatment plant, and BIOM thermo-acoustic insulation to minimize the environmental footprint. The construction system combines basaltic stone walls and prefabricated wooden trusses, ensuring structural integrity and environmental harmony.
