History
El Vergel was originally a forest area that lay below the historic city center. The first developments took place through the establishment of blacksmiths along Calle Las Herrerías. Later, from the beginning of the 20th century, the more wealthy inhabitants of Cuenca began to build their houses in El Vergel and Sucre, the district on the other side of the Avenida Solano.
